Old made new

I have been kind of close to home these last few days as I am still getting over my walking pneumonia.and the annoying cough that it has left me with!! That has allowed me some good art time. YAY!!

As I often do, leaving what I was going to be working on today, I went looking for some old canvases in the garage. Found some!! I even brought down an old wood boxed canvas that I had done in a class several years ago, but it had stayed in my art room all this time. I wasn`t really crazy about it …. so guess what? Another make over opportunity!!

burlap 2

This was a long narrow wooden box canvas. Originally, I had taken burlap, gessoed all over it, and let it drive. Then… bunched it up and let the dried gesso fall off leaving this cool texture.

Then I adhered it to the wood canvas and let it dry again.

The I had outlined and painted the original angel. Today, I painted over her dress, and extended the wings a bit with the palette knife and white paint.. I re painted  her face and she had a brown root touch up on her hair.

I like her much better now and she is much happier!! Just as she was made from original brokenness and restored for a new life, He can take our brokeness and make beauty in our lives.

I love this quote from a book of mine…. “Being present to God`s presence brings deep and lasting happiness” Ann Voskamp   It is only when we are present with Him that we can see the beauty from brokeness and know it is all from Him..
